The Taxi Driver Outside the Shul

TefillahShabbos & Yom Tov

A story ofRav Avrohom Abba Leiferהרב אברהם אבא בן יוסף לייפער

Except in extreme weather, the Rebbe kept the front doors of his shul open to the street. It is told that a Holocaust survivor was once driving a taxi on Shabbos and got stuck in a traffic jam outside the shul.

He heard the sweet sound of the Rebbe’s davening, and it stirred memories of the years before the war. He got out of his taxi and stood by the shul door, listening until Musaf was over. The Rebbe drew him close, and in time he became a baal teshuva.
