Hashem Is Everyone's Father

TefillahChildren & shidduchim

A story ofRav Avrohom Weinberg of Slonimהרב אברהם בן נח ווינברג

One of the Birkas Avrohom's descendants once complained to the Rebbe about his difficulty in earning a living. The worries of parnasa were weighing heavily on him, and the Birkas Avrohom strengthened him with these words of chizuk:

"Do you imagine that Hashem is only my merciful Father and not yours? Perhaps you think that to me He is a merciful Father, whereas to you He is a Grandfather or a Great-Grandfather? That is wrong. He is your Father exactly as much as He is my Father, no more and no less. A Father worries about His children and takes care of their needs, and we all have the same Father."

He then recalled, with warmth, a conversation his own father, Rav Noach of Teveria, once had in his older years with a young grandson. "Do you know, my beloved grandson, what the words in the Machzor mean: 'HaShave uMashve Koton veGadol', that Hashem treats the young and the old as equals? Come, I will explain it to you. You might think that Hashem listens to the tefillos of an old man like me, with a long white beard, while the tefillos of a young boy like you are less important, and who bothers to listen to them? That is a mistake. You and I are truly the same. Hashem makes us all equal, with no difference at all, not even a hairsbreadth. His ears are open to the tefillos and requests of a young child no less than to those of an elderly grandfather with a long white beard."
