His Holy Passing

It is told that the Rama set aside time for hisbodedus (secluded meditation), stirring his love for the Creator. Knowing that his longing might grow so fierce that his soul would depart, he instructed his shamash to enter at a fixed hour and guard him.

Then a huge blaze erupted. Amid the chaos, the shamash lost track of his charge and came late. When he entered, he found that the Rama's soul had already clung to the eternal life of the World to Come.
