Lost in a Halachic Thought
It is told that Rav Meshulem was once walking through the marketplace of Tismenitz, so absorbed in his thoughts on a halachic question that he did not notice a team of horses racing toward him, pulling a carriage. He was struck to the ground. The townspeople who saw the frightening scene ran to save the Rav's life.
As they pulled him out from under the wheels of the carriage, they heard him murmuring, “And from this, we must decide whether the approach of the Raavad, Rav Avraham ben Dovid of Poshkira, is more appropriate than that of the Rambam.”
