The Nazi Demand for Gold
In 1943 the Nazis came to Tunisia and demanded that Rav Moshe collect fifty kilos of gold for them within three and a half hours. If he failed, they threatened to bomb the Jewish communities of Jerba and Tunis.
The next day the Allies conquered Tunisia, and the Nazis were gone from the country. The thirty-five kilos of gold that the Jews had managed to collect were never handed over to the Germans.
