Why the Ohr HaChaim Presses Stopped
Torah learning
A chassid of Bershad related that Rav Pinchos of Koretz used to say that learning the sefer Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh is a segulah for the neshamah, like learning the holy Zohar. Rashbi had the soul of the Moshiach of his generation, and so did Rav Chaim ben Attar, the author of the Ohr HaChaim.
Rav Pinchos instructed his descendants, the Shapira grandchildren of the Slovita Press, to print the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, and promised that this would protect them from evil and harm. They carried out his instruction until so many editions had been printed that the seforim far outnumbered the demand and there were no buyers left. So they stopped printing it. It was in that very year, when they ceased printing the Ohr HaChaim, that the infamous libel struck and they were falsely accused.
