The Photo and Its Inscription

Teshuvah

A story ofRav Sholom Moskowitzהרב שלום בן מרדכי יוסף משה מאשקאוויטש

There is a photograph of the Shotzer Rebbe, taken with his permission. On its reverse side is written the pasuk "Ba'avur tihyeh yiraso al peneichem levilti secheto'u", "In order that fear of Hashem be upon you, so that you do not sin." This is the story of that photograph and its inscription.

Once, the Rebbe's daughter, Rebbetzin Chaya, came to visit and asked for a photo of him. At first he refused, and he asked with a smile, "What will you do with such a photo? Will it help your yiras Shamayim?" She said that yes, it would, and he agreed, on condition that he would inscribe the photo on its reverse. That is why his photograph bears his own inscription, as a segulah for yiras Shamayim.
