Flames Around Ben Azzai

An aggadic tradition from Eretz Yisroel tells that Ben Azzai was once expounding Scripture when flames blazed up around him. Those present asked whether he was occupied with the mysteries of the Divine Chariot.

He answered, "I thread the words of the Torah to those of the Prophets, and the Prophets to the Writings, like pearls on a string. And so the words of the Torah rejoice as they did when they were first given amid the fire of Sinai."
