Please Do Not Lick the Bones

A story ofRav Yehoshua Horowitzהרב יהושע בן מאיר הורוויץ

It is told that once, at the Rebbe's seudah on Rosh Chodesh Nissan, the tzaddik entered, looked around and declared, "I see that many soldiers have gathered here. Now I wish to admonish you all. Even if you are forced to eat treifos, I beg you, do not lick the bones in delight."

The chassidim were confused by the Rebbe's words, for only chassidim were present, and not a single soldier among them. Several years later the First World War broke out and the draft began, and many of them were conscripted into the army. Then the tzaddik's declaration rang in their ears and his ruach hakodesh was revealed, for now they were soldiers facing the very challenges he had spoken of.
