A story ofRav Yeruchem Levovitzהרב ירוחם בן אברהם ליבוביץ

Rav Wolff related that during Aseres Yemei Teshuvah a bochur came to Rav Yeruchem and asked for money from the yeshiva's TaT fund, which helped needy bochurim with their expenses, so that he could buy a new pair of shoes. Rav Yeruchem answered, "You don't need them. It's not so bad."

On motzei Yom Kippur, Rav Yeruchem called the bochur over and gave him the money. The bochur was amazed. Rav Yeruchem explained, "You came during Aseres Yemei Teshuvah to use my fear of the coming judgment, to move me to give you tzedakah money. I did not want that to affect my judgment."
