The Silversmiths Before Pesach
Shabbos & Yom Tov
A week before Pesach in 1920, the Chief Rabbi faced his first test. The king's rebellious elder son had hired Jewish silversmiths to mint coins in his own name, defying his father, and all of the silversmiths were arrested.
Rav Yihya Yitzchak Halevi appealed to the king on their behalf. The king allowed them to be freed, so that they could keep the coming Yom Tov with their families.
