Tied to the Mast

A story ofRav Yissocher Dov Ber of Zlotchovהרב יששכר דוב בער בן אריה יהודה לייבוש מזלאטשוב

Rav Yitzchok Isaac of Komarna relates that a miracle occurred to Rav Yissocher Dov Ber on his way to Eretz Yisroel. As they travelled by sea, a great storm threatened to kill them. He told the captain and the sailors to tie him to the mast of the ship, so that the archangelic minister of the sea would gaze upon his Divine Image, his Tzelem Elokim, and then the sea would cease its tempest.

This was possible, the Komarner explains, only because all the days of his life he had never even slightly damaged his Divine Image. They did as he said, and instantly calm and tranquility reigned, and the sea was quiet.
