Wearing White on Shabbos

Tzedakah & chesedShabbos & Yom TovAhavas Yisroel

A story ofRav Yitzchak of Drohovitchרבי יצחק מדרוהוביטש

It is told that Reb Yitzchak was convinced that if every Jew dressed in white on holy Shabbos, the redemption would arrive. He traveled from town to town, urging people to do it.

Satan appeared to him and issued a warning. If Reb Yitzchak did not drop this campaign, Satan would turn everyone into "chasidim."

Reb Yitzchak answered that in that case he would give it up. His journey, he said, was only to raise tzedakah for himself and his family. Satan heard this, was satisfied, and left.

But Reb Yitzchak still wished to carry on, to rouse the Jewish people to wear white on Shabbos and so accomplish what he had set out to do. In the end, he did not succeed.
