The Dream of the Fire
Torah learning
In 5585 (1825), Rav Zekel Leib began to have a recurring nightmare that a fire consumed his home and burned all of his belongings. He told his son, his nephew and his childhood friend Berele Bernheimer about the dream. But it was his childhood home, which he had inherited from his parents and which was in use as a shul, and he did not want to sell it.
Unfortunately, the dream came true. In Elul or Tishrei (September) of that year, a fire consumed his home, and most of his writings went up in flames. Most of his seforim and writings were lost in a conflagration that swept through twenty other houses. Thanks to monetary gifts and insurance, Rav Zekel Leib was able to purchase a new home to house both his family and the yeshiva.
