Every Event Is a Message

The purpose of man, Reb Usher taught, is devotion to the Creator. To reach it, he asked his followers to see every event in their lives, good or bad, as a ta'am (a reason that carries taste and meaning) and as a direct message from Hashem. The ta'am comes to a person in order to direct him toward dveikus, linking all his powers and his reality to the Creator's wholeness. Reb Usher would go out with his followers for hisbodedus, by day and especially at night.
