Old Customs Are Not Undone

Rav Avrohom taught that established minhagim deserve respect. Concerning the berachah for giving strength to the weary, he held that a long-standing practice should be left in place, and he believed that even a great Rav who had objected to the minhag likely regretted changing it near the end of his life.
