A Segulah to Bring Others Back to Teshuvah

Shabbos & Yom TovTeshuvah

A teaching ofRav Avrohom Brandweinהרב אברהם בן יהודה צבי בראנדויין

There is a segulah to help wayward offenders return to the fold. It is found in the Degel Machane Yehuda of the Strettiner, and it was often prescribed by the Arader Rav and Rav Aharon Fisher. A version with detailed instructions was set out by Rav Hirschele Miller. The segulah is to write the person's names on bricks and to bake them in the oven on Erev Shabbos together with the challos. While they bake, one says three times that just as these bricks are baked and burned in the oven, so should the heart of Ploni ben Ploni (the person's Hebrew name, son of his mother's Hebrew name) burn with fire and passion for avodas Hashem. The bricks are then buried at the kever of a well-known tzaddik, or next to one. Many do this at the kevarim of the Kasua Rav of Williamsburg, Tolaas Yaakov, of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, of the Divrei Yoel of Satmar or of Ribnitz, or of a Tanna. Rav Ben Tzion Mutzafi and Rav Shmueli also prescribed this segulah to others, to help people repent and do teshuvah.
