The Soul Hears Chassidus
Rav Hillel Paritcher asked the Mitteler Rebbe whether one should review Chassidus even in towns where the people have no idea what Chassidus means. The Rebbe answered, "The soul hears the words of Chassidus." He found this in the pasuk, "Flowing from Lebanon" (Shir HaShirim 4:15). In Hebrew, Levanon is spelled Lev Nun. Lamed and Beis equal 32, the 32 paths of Chochmah (Wisdom), and Nun is 50, the 50 Gates of Binah (Insight) of the soul. When the soul hears, a flow, a stream of droplets, issues from there into the radiance (ha'arah) of the soul that gives life to the body. This strengthens "asei tov," do good, expressed in the 248 positive mitzvos, and "sur me'ra," turn away from evil, expressed in the 365 prohibitions. It is explained that only part of the soul invests itself in the body to give it life. This is the radiance, or reflection, of the soul, in contrast to its essence, Levanon, which remains above. A simple person who hears Chassidus does not comprehend it in the least, yet his soul does possess the qualities of intellect, chochmah and binah, that do comprehend, though he is not conscious of this. There is an effect on him, the flow from Levanon, from intellect.
