A teaching ofRav Eliezer Papoרב אליעזר ב"ר יצחק פאפוProfile ›

Rav Eliezer Papo taught that it is wrong to be overly concerned with earning a livelihood. A person must work for a living and not rely on a miracle to sustain himself and his family. But income is determined by Hashem: if Hashem wants someone to be poor, he will be poor however hard he works, and if Hashem wants him to be rich, he will be rich even without great effort. Everyone is obliged to give some time to making a living, but must realize that the measure of success comes from Hashem.
