Rav Ezra taught his talmidim that many questions are avoided when a person learns the simple meaning of a sugya patiently and in depth, taking care to read every word, and every letter, with attention. He began every sugya with the basic Gemara, Rashi and Tosafos, and then turned to the Maharsha.
