The Greater the Tzaddik, the Wider His Love

A teaching ofRav Gedalya Rabinowitz of Linitzהרב גדליה בן יצחק רבינוביץ

Rav Gedalya used to say that a minor tzaddik loves minor resha'im, whereas a great tzaddik loves even resha'im gedolim, and has the capacity to love even those who are greatly wicked. Moshiach, however, can love even the completely wicked, the resha'im gemurim. Whoever advocates on behalf of all creatures, teaching their merits and giving them the benefit of the doubt, shares in this aspect of Moshiach. This is also why peace must come first. If one is considered a tzaddik, his enemy cannot be considered one, so without peace it is impossible for everyone to be meritorious.
