The Berachos Within the Tochachah
Shabbos & Yom Tov
The pasuk in the tochachah says: “Your carcass shall be food for every bird of the heavens and beast of the earth, and none shall fear.” The Hebrew word for carcass is neveilah. Rav Meir of Premishlan explained that it is related to the words nevel and kinor, two musical instruments, and hints at the kol shofar, the sound of the shofar blasts that will consume the birds of the heavens. These birds, he said, are the angels of prosecution and judgment. The shofar will cancel their decrees against us, in Heaven and on earth. Then none shall fear: we will not fear them, and they will have no rule over us.
