A Sign From Heaven

His son, Chacham Yitzchak Derzi, related that whenever his father woke at night, at any hour, even if he had fallen asleep only minutes earlier, he would rise at once, quickly and eagerly, to serve Hashem. He would say, "When a person wakes up at night, it is a sign from Heaven that Hashem is waiting for his Torah and his tefillah. Perhaps in that moment he saves the whole world and becomes a worthy ruler."
