Returning to the Study of the Maharsha

The Chazon Ish writes that the previous generation did something incorrect when it stopped studying the sefer of the Maharsha. The Maharsha left Klal Yisrael a great gift, to bring merit to the generations after him and to accustom those who learn to toil in Torah. The Gaon Rav Akiva Eiger studied the entire sefer and left nothing out. From the day the generation stopped studying the Maharsha, it lost the true understanding of the simple meaning of the text, and accustomed itself instead to kalus ha'iyun, in-depth analysis that is light-headed and a façade.
