Three Principles of Learning
Torah learningSimcha
Rav Dov Katz described the Alter's approach to learning as resting on three principles. First, a person should become emotionally involved in what he learns, whether in joy or in sadness. Second, after learning anything, he should ask himself, "What did I think before, and what do I know differently now?" Third, his learning should always go past the surface and reach the essence of the subject.
