Why the Tzaddikim Are Called Wonders
The Rebbe's son-in-law, the Oholei Yaakov, taught that the Rebbe's answer to the gentile is alluded to in the commentary of the Ibn Ezra on Parshas Naso, on the word yafli, said of the nozir. Yafli can mean that he does a pele, something wondrous. Most people chase their desires, while the nozir holds himself back from doing so. In the same way, the tzaddikim refrain from chasing their desires, and this is why they are called wonder rabbis.
