Loving Your Days

TefillahTorah learning

A teaching ofRav Yisroel Meir HaKohen Kagan of Radinהרב ישראל מאיר בן אריה לייב קאגאן

The Chofetz Chaim often explained the verse from Tehillim that speaks of the person who desires life and loves days in which to see good. Anyone who truly loves his days must see to it that they are good ones. In Olam HaBa our days come back to meet us, and everything is laid out before us, so that we see just how we used them: the days wasted without learning, the forbidden words, the sights we should have turned away from. Whoever wants life and wants good days must therefore make his days good, so that the days themselves will work in his favor. He also had a well-known saying: people fret over whether they will have enough to live on, but he wondered whether they would have enough to take with them when they die.
