Biography

Life

Rav Moshe Tzvi Aryeh Bick zt"l (1911–1990) was born in Mezhbizh (Medzbosz), Ukraine, but grew up in New York. He is recognized as one of the first gedolim (Torah giants) to be raised on American soil.

He studied under Rav Moshe Soloveitchik at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, and attended New York City public schools at night.

At the age of 21 Rav Moshe Tzvi Aryeh was hired by a shul in the Bronx, where he founded schools for both boys and girls. He later moved to Boro Park. He was recognized as a master posek (halachic authority) by both chassidic and non-chassidic communities, but he never published his teshuvos (responsa).

He passed away on 19 Elul 5750 (1990).
