Are We on the Same Level?

A story ofRav Aryeh Tzvi Frummerהרב אריה צבי בן חנוך הענדיל פרומר

It is told that the Koziglover Rav reprinted the sefer Shiurei Kometz HaMincha by Rav Arye Leib Tzintz, adding his own glosses and commentary. Some time after the sefer had become available again, a young man came to ask him to daven and give a berachah for his daughter, who was very sick. The doctors had given up hope and said her life was in danger.

The Rav answered that he could not change what Hashem had decided. If the man only wanted Tehillim recited, he could do that himself, for why would the Rav's Tehillim be better than his?

The young man pressed him. Rav Leibush Charif, the Maharal Tzintz, had only to say, "Hashem will help," and a yeshua came. The Rav asked how he could be compared to Rav Leibush, and whether they were really on the same level. The man replied, "Then why did you put your commentary on the very same page as his?"

There was nothing more to say, and the Rav gave in. His face took on an otherworldly look, and he turned to the young man and said, "Hashem ya'azor, Hashem will help." The girl recovered completely, in a miraculous way.
