A story ofRav Avrohom Yehoshua Heschel of Apta, Mezhibuzhהרב אברהם יהושע העשיל בן שמואל העשיל

It is told that when the Rizhiner Rebbe was still young, he attended a wedding where many great tzaddikim and Chassidic Rebbes were present. During the chasuna, his gartel (the sash worn around the waist) fell off.

The Apta Rav, who was then recognized as one of the elders and leaders of Chassidus, bent down himself and retied it. Many in the crowd were shocked that such an elder Rebbe would humble himself before so young a tzaddik.

The Apta Rav answered, "What do they want? I only fulfilled a mitzvah. I was doing gelilah (wrapping the Torah scroll) and retying a Sefer Torah."
