Milk on the First Morning

It is told, though the account may be apocryphal, that Rav Elchonon was careful in America to drink only chalav Yisroel milk, which was hard to find in those days. On the night he arrived, a cup of milky coffee was set before him, and he declined it. The next morning the same cup was brought to him again.

“Did I not tell you last night that I do not drink milk?” he asked in astonishment. His host answered in all seriousness, “I thought that after a whole night in America you would already have changed your attitude a little.”
