The Plague of Worms in Holland

Tefillah

A story ofRav Elozor Roke'achהרב אלעזר בן שמואל שמלקא רוקח

It is told by the Rebbe of Belz that when Rav Elozor arrived in Holland, the country was suffering from a plague of worms. Scientists warned of grave danger to the land. The whole peninsula of Holland faced ruin, threatened with being devoured by the vast numbers of worms.

The king of Holland heard about the newly arrived tzaddik, Rav Elozor, and asked him to pray for the removal of the threat. Rav Elozor went out to the field and prayed.

When he finished, the whole country witnessed a miracle. The worms came out of the ground and fell to their death in the sea, and the danger had passed. As a thank-you for his help, the Dutch government minted a special commemorative coin bearing the Rav's face and two verses from Tehillim.
