The Prayers for the Crown Prince
It is told that the crown prince of Russia, the son of Emperor Alexander II, once fell gravely ill. The Emperor sent word through the Russian consul in Eretz Yisroel, asking Rav Meir to gather a group of scholars to pray for the boy’s recovery.
Rav Meir agreed. He also sent a telegram to the Emperor, promising that the boy would get well. At the very moment the Emperor read the telegram, the royal physicians came to tell him that his son had miraculously come out of danger.
In gratitude the Emperor sent Rav Meir a personal handwritten letter of thanks. With it came a gift of one thousand rubles, to be distributed among the poor talmidei chachamim of Yerushalayim.
