Peace Before Kol Nidrei

It is related that one Yom Kippur night the people of the city gathered in shul and waited for Rav Meir to arrive so that davening could begin. He was not yet inside. Standing outside, he was trying to make peace between two men who had been enemies for many years.
Rav Meir told them that davening would not begin until they made peace. They heeded his words, and only then did Kol Nidrei commence.
