True Chassidim

It is told that Rav Yaakov Yitzchok, the Chozeh of Lublin, once asked Rav Menachem Mendel of Rymanow whether he had followers and chassidim. "Yes, we do," answered Rav Menachem Mendel.

"And in what way are they chassidim?" the Chozeh asked. "Our chassidim, my followers," answered Rav Menachem Mendel, "study halachah and Tosfos in depth." "If so," replied the Chozeh, "then they are indeed true chassidim."
