One Mitzvah, Done Completely
Shabbos & Yom Tov
A teaching ofRav Dov Berish Weidenfeldהרב דוב בעריש בן יעקב וידנפלד
Even in the freezing Siberian exile, the Tchebiner Rav continued to think through questions of halachah. He considered two people in a desert who have only one kezayis of matzah between them. If they divide it, each will have less than the minimum amount. Should one of them eat the whole kezayis while the other tastes no matzah at all? The Rav reworded the question: which is preferred, one mitzvah fulfilled completely, or two mitzvos with neither fully fulfilled? His answer was that even for himself, a person should always prefer to do one mitzvah fully and completely rather than two incomplete mitzvos.
