Hashem's Gifts of Food and Torah
Torah learning
Rav Heller asks why the Divine names differ in two berachos. Birkas Zimun says Elokeinu, the name of strict justice, while Birkas HaTorah, Barchu es Hashem HaMevorach, uses the four-letter name of mercy. He explains that with food and sustenance, Hashem acts according to the letter of the law, because justice obligates Him to feed and sustain His creatures, so the zimun uses Elokim, the Law Giver and Master. The Torah, however, is a gift of lovingkindness, as it says in Yeshaya 42. It cannot be a matter of strict law, since Hashem did not give the Torah to the nations, though they too are His creatures.
