Fewer Seforim, Deeper Learning
Torah learning
The Vitka Rav also chastised those who studied many seforim. He said that when he visited Oberland, Hungary, he saw that their rabbanim lived in wealth and had vast libraries, yet could not learn properly, while the rabbanim of Unterland lived in abject poverty and so had fewer seforim, yet learned better. As an example he would remark that he knew the Rav of the Hadass was a talmid chacham because he was poor and owned only the volumes of Shas, Rambam, Tur and Shulchan Aruch. He had to study these and review them over and over, and this led to his wisdom.
