His Last Public Address

Children & shidduchimTorah learning

A story ofRav Dov Berish Weidenfeldהרב דוב בעריש בן יעקב וידנפלד

About two years before he passed away, the cornerstone was laid for the new building of Kochav MiYaakov, the Tchebiner Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. On the 12th of Tammuz 5723, at a gathering in a hall in the Talpiot neighborhood, Rav Dov Berish made his final public appearance and spoke with great emotion.

He blessed everyone present and spoke about how the Torah is our life, ki hem chayenu: a person without Torah is like a body without a soul, and anyone who loves his children must raise them to Torah, even with self-sacrifice and mesirus nefesh.

He also spoke of the duty to teach others, and said that talmidei yeshivah must share their learning and not keep everything they have learned to themselves. He hoped to celebrate the chanukas habayis of the new building as well, but that was not to be.
