On the verse “I crossed with my staff,” the Degel records a teaching of the Baal Shem Tov. The Baal Shem Tov once crossed the Dniester River without using any Divine Names. He simply threw his gartel across the water and crossed, and he explained that he was able to do so through great emunah.
