Buried by the road for her children
Children & shidduchim
Yaakov did not carry Rachel to Beis Lechem or to Chevron, but buried her on the roadside where she died. Rashi relates from the Midrash that this was by Hashem's command: when the Jewish people would be led into exile past that place, Rachel would come out of her grave and beg for mercy for them. Her kever is placed precisely where her children would need her most.
