The prayer that overcame the decree

The Midrash relates that after the Churban, Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov and Moshe each pleaded for Israel without success. Then Rachel spoke: she had overcome her own jealousy and even helped her rival sister so as not to shame her. If a human being could set aside jealousy, should the merciful King be 'jealous' of powerless idols and exile His children? Hashem answered that for her sake He would bring Israel back. Her argument was not her suffering but her self-mastery.
