Chew It Up

Shabbos & Yom TovTorah learning

A teaching ofRav Yaakov Yitzchok Rabinowitz of Peshischaהרב יעקב יצחק בן אשר מפשיסחא

The Gemara in Pesachim (115b) rules that if a person swallows the maror whole at the seder, he has not fulfilled the mitzvah. The Yid Hakadosh taught that the lesson is this: if you have a bitter experience in avodas Hashem and it leaves a bitter taste, do not swallow it. Chew it up well. If you swallow it without chewing, you have not fulfilled your obligation.
