I Have Set Hashem Before Me Always
The verse Shivisi Hashem Lenegdi Tamid, "I have set Hashem before me always," was Rav Yehuda Zev's guiding principle on every day of the year. He strove for perfection in all his deeds and thoughts. Every tenth day, beginning from Rosh HaShana, he set aside for introspection and self-examination, following the practice of the mussar masters known as Asiri Kodesh, "the tenth day is holy," and he conducted himself with added kedusha on those days.
