Storms at Sea
TefillahHumility
Chassidim relate that during the voyage to Eretz Yisroel, a storm threatened to capsize the ship and drown everyone aboard. Rav Menachem Mendel cried out, "Master of the World, Ribbono Shel Olam, remember the suffering and shame I endured when I took leave of Rav Boruch of Mezhibuzh, and the honors they gave me that shamed me. They swept the floor before me and treated me like royalty."
His humility was so great and his shame so real that Hashem heard his tefillos, and the storm calmed.
Another time, a gale threatened the ship again. Ignoring the protests of his companions, Rav Menachem Mendel lowered himself into the raging water and immersed in the sea as in a mikveh. He stayed until he had achieved salvation, sweetening the harsh judgment, cancelling the decree and stilling the storm for all of them.
