Money Meant for New Equipment

ParnassahShabbos & Yom Tov

A story ofRav Shlomo Halberstam of Bobovהרב שלמה בן בן ציון האלבערשטאם

While building the Bobover kehilla after the Second World War, the Rebbe traveled to South America to raise funds. On Shabbos he expected to see an acquaintance, but the man did not come. On Motza'ei Shabbos the man appeared and was asked where he had been. He explained that he had gone to work at his company on Shabbos. Embarrassed, he said that the machinery there was so old that he could not afford to shut down for Shabbos.

The Rebbe asked what new machinery would cost. The sum was exactly the amount he had raised in the previous few days. He handed over all of it on the spot. The man became shomer Shabbos and raised a fine Torah family.
