It Is Midnight

Humility

A story ofRav Shmuel Druziרבי שמואל דרזי

It is told that Rav Shmuel knew the day of his passing. Two days before, in the shiur he gave, he spoke about man's nothingness in this world and about the fact that no one knows the day of his death.

The Rebbetzin relates that shortly before he passed away, the Rav said to her, "Do you see? It is midnight, it is midnight." She did not understand what he meant. On Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh, however, as the family hurried to him before midnight (a time that, as is known, some Kabbalists regard as significant on that night), she understood what he had said.
