On a long trip, two bochurim from the yeshiva traveled with the Rosh Yeshiva and decided to use the time to review several pages of Maseches Berachos that they knew by heart. The Rosh Yeshiva sat just in front of them, and they noticed him fidgeting in his seat. Every so often he got up, walked around and gave them a piercing look.
“What Gemara are you using back there?” he asked. “Is it a different girsa?” Hardly hiding their pride, the bochurim answered that they had no Gemara and were reviewing from memory. The Rosh Yeshiva smiled and recited the exact words of the Gemara for them.
