No Tosafos Forgotten
Torah learning
When Rav Ruderman was in his eighties, a talmid went with him to daven Mincha. The Rosh Yeshiva complained that the strong medicines he took for his many ailments made him forget things.
The talmid asked whether he had forgotten any Tosafos in Shas. Rav Ruderman struck his cane on the floor and said firmly, “No, no, not Tosafos. I mean a chiddush I once said on a difficult Rambam. I have trouble remembering all of it.” The talmid saw in how unthinkable it was to him to forget a Tosafos a sign of the love and devotion for Torah that stayed with him all his life.
