The Sleeping Child
A story ofRav Yoel Teitelbaumהרב יואל בן חנניה יום טוב טייטלבויםProfile ›
Chassidim told of the two wonder sons of the Sigheter Rav when they were still small children. It was said that the younger boy, Yoel, avoided touching the covered parts of his body unnecessarily, so that he would always be ready to learn Torah.
A visiting rabbi asked the Sigheter Rav whether this was true. “Come,” said the Rav, and he led the guest to the bedroom where three-year-old Yoel was fast asleep. He lifted the child's tzitzis over his head and tickled his ear.
Without waking, the boy pulled his sleeve over his fingers and scratched his head with his covered hand.
